I swear to god, I will eventually get this thing up and running. Not like anyone will actually look at it, but I figure if I'm linking to it, there should be something there, right?

Well, here's something. Tomorrow I'm giving a talk entitled "CAT(0) Geometry and Right Angled Artin Groups", where I will essentially fake my way through 50 minutes of pretending I really understand everything I'm talking about. Should be fun; maybe I'll post pictures or something. But seriously, it's an awesome topic, but I didn't realize that the paper I read so so interesting until just this morning. Meaning, of course, that I had to drastically re-structure everything. It went from too short to too long in just under three hours (the length of time to read and understand how Graph Braid Groups embed in Right Angled Artin Groups). Procrastination has hit me again.

In any case, it should be an illuminating talk. If you're interested, drop by the Mathematical Sciences Building and learn.

Otherwise, I have to be off to bed because I'm close to passing out.

Natasha described the horrid film that was "The Descent" the other day. I realized the plot, however contrived it was, sounded vaguely familiar. I dug around through my old links, and remembered the old "Ted the Caver" story that's still floating around the internets.

Why?

Because I can. Because a thousand people before me have done it to death, so there's no harm in adding one more. Because, as a grad student, I know there are other grad students out there interested in others' perspectives in our common fields. As a mathematician, I know there's other mathematicians interested in others' perspectives in our specific field. As both a grad student and a mathematician, I need perspective in my life and my choice of profession. I'm sure others do too. So, here you go; my perspective on academic life, grad student life, math life, and life.
